Announcement - Launch of the McMaster Research Ethics Manager (MacREM)

From the Office of the Vice-President of Research

Dear McMaster Research Community,

I am pleased to inform you of the upcoming launch of the McMaster Research Ethics Manager (MacREM), set for early October.

MacREM – a new web-based system to submit, review and approve research ethics applications for the McMaster Research Ethics Board (MREB) – is built on the same platform used by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HiREB). MacREM was endorsed through the IT Governance process via the Research Technology Committee.

MacREM is designed to simplify both the application and review processes, and our early users have confirmed the streamlined system is easy to use and appreciate its ability to create a centralized record of all ethics documents.

While the official launch is still some weeks away, MacREM is now ready for users to submit applications for review and approval at: However, users can still submit a Word application via email until October 26, 2018.

Details on the launch will be posted on the Daily News in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, for login information, user guides, and upcoming drop-in training session dates and times, please visit the MREB webpage at:

Please direct questions related to the transition or applications to the Ethics Office at or at ext. 23142.  Also, please share with all your respective students.
